After returning from the consultation room, Judge Mnatsakan Martirosyan rejected a petition filed by the lawyer of civil activist Gevorg Safaryan, who had requested the Court to substitute Safaryan’s detention with bail. The judge said that the motion was groundless.
Today, the Court also heard the testimony of Police Capitan Gegham Khachatryan, Commander of the 4th special battalion of the patrol service of the Yerevan City Department, who said Safaryan had punched and kicked him during an incident at Liberty Square on December 31.
Gevorg Safaryan asked Khachatryan why they had not detained him immediately. In reply, Khachatryan said people appeared on his way every now and then disturbing him to Safaryan.
The next court sitting is scheduled for June 14.
