The lawyer of civil activist Gevorg Safaryan has motioned the court to review Safaryan’s restraint and change detention by another precautionary measure.
The lawyer filed the petition after the court watched several videos as key evidence in the case. The lawyer says the videos clearly show that Safaryan has nothing to do with the incident that occurred on December 31.
Gevorg Safaryan, a member of the New Armenia Public Salvation Front, was detained during clashes between police and demonstrators at Yerevan’s Liberty Square on New Year’s Eve. He was immediately charged with using violence against a government representative. He has been in custody since December 31.
Judge Mnatsakan Martirosyan is expected to announce his decision in an hour.
