Fifteen years of UNCERTAINTY
Today marks the 15 year anniversary of the killing at the Armenian Parliament. On October 27, 1999, during Armenian Parliamentary session, 5 gunmen broke through the parliament building and showered the parliament room with thousands of bullets that killed Prime Minister Vazgen Sargsyan and parliament speaker Karen Demirchyan, including several other politicians.
To this day, the case is unclear, and the Armenian Government is not opening its doors to clear the uncertainty of who was behind this tragedy. Although the perpetrators have been punished, it is unknown who the directors of this massacre are.
Yes, the trial of the terrorists was held from 2001 and ended in 2003… Yes, they were sentenced to life in prison… But they were only acting on behalf of the person (persons) who ordered. The trial did not expose them and to this day, Armenian citizens are unsure and have serious doubts regarding the head of this tragedy.
According to the Armenian government, all possible investigations have been completed. However, these investigations did not give answers to HOW these gunmen were able to acquire such guns and ammunition, let alone enter the parliament. They key witness, Tigran Nazaryan, died unexpectedly in the United States just recently on March 2014. He was the person who spent over 2 hours with one of the killers, Nairi Hunanyan, after the attack. Tigran has testified over the phone from the US.
Tigran Nazaryan was sent to the US as the correspondent of the Public television, and then found out that his contract was suspended and he could not return to his homeland. He told the newspapers that he was pressured and intimidated by certain officials and was told that he will be killed if he returned to Armenia. Tigran held the answers, and now he is gone. Hail to the corrupt Armenian government officials!
There were several other people linked to the investigation, and they all died under unexplained and suspicious circumstances. For example, Norayr Yeghiazaryan, who sold weapons to the gang, died unexpectedly (supposedly from electrocution) in his prison cell. The irony… he was an electrician. Another example is Tigran Naghdalyan, the chairman of Armenian Public Television, was shot dead at his apartment. Vram Galstyan, Nairi Hunanyan’s uncle, committed suicide in prison. He had claimed several times in court that the authorities was injecting him with psychotropic drugs and had pressured him on several occasions to commit suicide.
This leads to human right defenders to question whether these and many more deaths associated with October 27 killing, are in fact “accidental”, “health related”, or occurred from “natural causes.” There is ENOUGH evidence during the investigations to disclose this crime…but IS there a will?
