Armenian Watergate? Authorities at NSS Threaten New Members of Heritage Party

Raffi Hovannisian released a statement accusing Armenia’s National Security Service (NSS) threatening their new members. A man, who presented himself as NSS officer, confronting the new member of the Heritage Party, said that the Heritage Party activist, who will soon be turning 27, and his family will face SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES if he refuses to “SECRETLY” collaborate with them.

This NSS offices further told the Heritage Party activist that “with your fancy diploma and knowledge…you should hope at best to work as a guard at a bakery.”

Raffi Hovannisyan demanded an official investigation and condemned Serzhik Sargsyan in seeking out the new members of opposition parties and trying to threaten them to secretly recruit them. He compared the Ex-KGB’s recruitment attempt and the Watergate scandal in the United States.

“When such a thing happened in America in the 70s… the consequence was impeaching proceedings and resignataion of President Nixon.” He went on saying, “I think this is Watergate.”

Not at all surprisingly, NSS declined to comment on the scandal and Education Minister Ashotian shrugged at Hovanissyan’s statements.
