The show staged by MP Ruben Hayrapetyan over his intended resignation is still continuing, says Davit Sanasaryan, a member of a Facebook initiative group demanding punishment for all accomplices in the Harsnakar case. Mr. Sanasaryan says their main objective is not making Hayrapetyan resign as an MP. "We are more concerned about the fate of the criminal case. Before the case went to court, its end was already predetermined, but we are determined to do our utmost to restore justice in the future. We are going to set a good example to our outstanding oligarchs and show them that their misdeeds will not remain unanswered," he said. Without elaborating on their future steps, Davit Sanasaryan said that the initiative group would do everything possible that all participants in the Harsnakar receive due punishment. Speaking about Hayrapetyan's pending resignation, Mr. Sanasaryan said, "Although residents of Avan district are now begging Hayrapetyan to withdraw his resignation request, I believe that he will eventually put down his mandate." Eduard Sharmazanov, Vice-Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly, interrupted parliamentary proceedings earlier today to read the resignation letter of Ruben Hayrapetyan. The MP has 15 days to withdraw his resignation before it is officially accepted. Ruben Hayrapetyan is expected to resign over the public uproar over the death of Armenian army physician Vahe Avetyan at his Harsnakar restaurant. On June 17, Vahe Avetyan, head of ENT (ear-nose-throat) department at the Defense Ministry's Yerevan garrison hospital, and his friends [also army doctors] were subjected to violent beating at Hayrapetyan's Harsnakar. After a 12-day fight for his life, Avetyan died in hospital on June 29 without regaining consciousness. Following the tragedy, civil activists, NGOs and ordinary citizens organized protests demanding to evoke Ruben Hayrapetyan of his parliamentary mandate.
