Statement by the HAK (Armenian National Congress):
"For the second time, the HAK is officially sounding the alarm that the threatening actions and provocations are being organized against political prisoner, editor-in-chief of "Haykakan Zhamanak" daily Nikol Pashinyan at the "Kosh" penitentiary. On the night of November 10, masked men attacked Pashinyan again while he was sleeping. Like the previous case, Serzh Sargsyan, Justice Minister Gevorg Danielyan and Head of the Penitentiary Department Hayk Harutyunyan are held totally responsible for this one as well and will be brought to justice.
This time the operation was organized in a way to conceal the traces through masked men. The Justice Ministry's announcement denying what happened is shameful. A reference to the cellmates who say no such thing has happened is ridiculous because the testimony is not only dangerous for each prisoner, but it is not accepted by conventions in the given atmosphere. Guided by the working style developed during the years of totalitarianism, the regime is making an attempt to deny its crime by ascribing an imbalanced state to its political opponent.
When the absolute truth is being denied in the most ghastly way, we demand an independent medical expert examination with the participation of representatives from the International Red Cross. We call on Armenian and international organizations involved in issues concerning human rights and freedom of speech and the press, as well as representations of foreign countries in Armenia to influence the Armenian authorities to fulfill our demand and raise their voices against the government's humiliating and bandit plans and actions threatening Nikol Pashinyan's security. We call on everyone to take part in the picket in front of the RA Prosecutor General's Office with the same demands on November 12 at 2 p.m.
